I have to admit that, personally, I'm more aware of emails coming from lists than what's on Discourse. Although, I'm sure that's not the case for everyone... I think with Discourse you have to opt in to get email notifications? That could be an issue. Certainly with things like the AGM, the board is required to serve notice to all members.
