To Rene:
here is the complete error message:
everything proceeds okay until the xfer utility program asks for inserting
Tape 53001, then:

Port is bi-directional
No SCSI adapter present
Timeout 1
...
Timeout 7
Unable to open device /dev/rntape2
...
(repeating until Timeout 7)
...
tar: Cannot open /dev/rntape2
An error occurred when running "/bin/tar" to the tape drive
ERROR in reading this floppy/tape

then it prompts for option whether retry or abort
abort option halting the xfer operation

To Coen:
the new harddisk size is 426 MB consists of 832607 blocks (as read by
Venix/xfer)
active partition is 0 and size is 600767 blocks (i have tried using full
size, but nothing changed)
according to the document, i should use EPP (with result as above) but i
have also tried setting "Bi-Dir" (in the BIOS parameter for peripheral) with
similar outcome
The number of cylinders is still on your limit: it has 826 cylinders, 16
heads, and 63 sectors
I am not familiar with hercules interface: is it cable type?
I tried using 3 scsi adapter (scsi port from tape to parallel port of PC)
cables: one is Tandberg-supply, one is TRACTOR mini scsi plus, and the other
is ADAPTEC mini scsi plus

How about harddisk recovery (under Venix), anyone got idea?
Thanks for all suggestions
Best Regards,

J. M. Saputra
