I am not sure if you are aware (excuse me if you are) but you can always take a look at the docker file themselves: they will be either in Dockerfile or a docker-compose.yml. That way you know what docker is actually going to install, it's not some kind of black box.

If you really don't want to use docker you can get the actual commands in those files and execute them on your machine or VM.
