It is not a matter of being discontinued. What he did was just simple: 1) install using the windows installer 2) remove all the files not needed for DOS, which is quite a lot 3) repack in .zip format just to be easy for using in DOS. the hard part is only (2) and the files should be the same as with the old verion.
