You are quite right. My only reason for posting was the listing of scientists who had changed their mind about GW. Also, a promise of listing more. To them must be added the hundreds and perhaps thousands who have strong doubts or disbelief about the GW hypothesis. This is not that the earth may be warming (although the oceans are apparently cooling) but that humans are responsible. Politics is a form of warfare, and truth is the first casualty of war. There are two conficting agendas at work. One is to deny that global warming is anything to be concerned about. This is the position of polluters who have the most resources, and therefore have the capacity to go on profitably polluting for a long, long time. The other agenda is to foment such hysteria that we will cave in on the most nefarious proposals. One such proposal is "cap and trade," under which people who have been polluting all along will acquire property in the right to pollute, which, if they stop polluting, they can sell or rent to others. This is especially attractive to companies like Duke Energy. Their dirty coal-burning power plants would soon be shut down anyhow, partly because they are so obsolete, and partly because Duke's coal reserves are dwindling. Under cap and trade, Duke will get paid for not burning the coal it no longer has anyhow. It's the greatest scam since farmers were paid to not farm. Like taxi medallions, pollution rights will sky-rocket in value. The tighter the caps, the more valuable the tradable rights. Those costs will be pure ransom, paid by energy users to privilege holders. This is really just an extension of Ronald Reagan's pollution tax credits. Yes, it takes a real monopolist to come up with a pollution tax credit instead of a pollution tax, but there we are. Cap and Trade is just an internationalization of a blatant rip-off of the American people. We need pollution and resource depletion taxes, pure and simple, not so much because of global warming, which is something of a problem, but because of other pollutants and because we are wasting limited environmental resources. However, it does not have to be an international tax, because it is in each country's interest to shift taxes off its own productivity and onto the resources it consumes. Resource-exporting countries should do this because the public will enjoy revenues currently enjoyed by the titled few, and because higher taxes and lower resource extraction rates drives up the price of the resources, yielding higher returns to the public. Resource-importing countries should do this because it will cause less reliance on foreign sources, and hence less payment to foreigners who will either lend the money back to the importing country, keeping it in perpetual debt, or will buy up the land of the importing country, keeping it in tenancy.
