IMHO, the rougher/original anti-aliased fonts/lines make them look a lot more 
crisp and less blurry.
I'm all for looking smooth, but we've always changed it be plain-old 
pixelation, so I'm not wondering if I 
have something in my eyes.

my tiny vote is to either make it configurable, or have 1.2.x withOUT the 
smoothing.
