Well, the problem is that it *isn't* configurable in the 1.0.49
series.  It might be possible to have a setting in conf.php that
indicates the rrdtool version, and adjust behavior based on that, but
I'm not sure that is a good idea.

With rrdtool 1.2.x, it might be possible to adjust the font to have it
look "the old way," but that might not make it exactly the same
either.  Part of the change is a shift in the actual font used, not
just the size and smoothing.  The old one was various forms of Lucida
(nomal/bold, 10/12 pts), while the new one is DejaVuSansMono-Roman
(13pt, I think).
