Julie and Jared,

If you are going to put Uroplatus in Sterilites, you need to cut large ventilation ports. I mean large too. I have most of my geckos in steriltes that are 25-30 gallons in size. All of them have 4x 10 inch vents cut out of the sides going vertically. I use expanded clay pellets for the base and them coco-tek on top of that with tons of live plants. They need the air to be fresh as possible. Also, mine are breeding well in these set ups too. They just need to well hydrated too. Lineatus do dehydrate quicker than most geckos.

Jason

Hi Jared,

Sure, I put some U. sikorae and U. lineatus in there as temp. caging and
they started dying- I did find some mold. They just did not like it as
well as glass or screen type terraria.

I wonder how spacious and/or naturalistic yours were? Not that I doubt that
they went downhill, or your experience or expertise, but it seems glass
/plastic/wood/screen are all the same to a gecko: walls which contain them.
Not to be negative or anything, I'm just saying...

Hey Jared,

They were pretty basic, 40-50 gallons with a bunch of airholes. Light
and air circulation were certainly factors in the demise of my geckos!

not in the pic, but I now have a nice light source (though no UV, just
dusting his roaches with Rep-Cal Vit D3 Ca for the next ~ 4 months he'll be
in there. As for air circulation, I have a 3"x16" vent along the bottom of
one side and top of the other side. This creates a nice airflow as warm air
rises out the top vent, it draws in air from the bottom vent, and yet the
humidity doesn't seem to be too adversely affected. I have this same basic
principle at work in my big viv, and love the results. I've heard it called "European style ventilation" since many of the Dutch and German vivs use it.

How could you call it anything but abusive?
