It's Debian Lenny , for x86

- finally I installed the correct version of Glib: now it passes ./configure
without ignoring it.

- I also installed the last version of GTK at:

http://www.gtk.org/download-linux.html

But it says:

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.4.0...
*** 'pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0' returned 2.14.7, but GTK+ (2.12.11)
*** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best

*** If pkg-config was wrong, set the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH

no
configure: error: GTK+ >= 2.4.0 not installed.

It seems as it want version 2.4, but in fact, 2.14.7 version is newer,
according to GTK webpage.
