Virtuals would seem to be the method to use which fits most seamlessly
into portage.  On the other hand, if the API to BSD package is
significantly different from the GNU package I would suggest duplicating
the functionality of the (g)sed ebuild.

How many packages are we going to have to apply these changes to?
Should we use a gwrapper.eclass to make something like this easier to
maintain?
