This is usually CFLAGS and other bits of env stuff. There's probably a more meaningful error earlier in the build log.
Can you post the full log for a failing file? Apparently, though unproven, at 09:45 on Friday 06 May 2011, Dale did opine thusly: > Hi, > > I'm trying to update my old rig, the x86 one. It is about 2 months or > so behind. I wanted to get it ready for the latest KDE for my brother > to play on. I keep running into this type of error: > > checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes > checking whether to disable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... > yes checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc... gcc > checking whether the C compiler works... no > configure: error: in > `/var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf-2.22.1/work/gdk-pixbuf-2.22.1': > configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables > See `config.log' for more details. > > !!!
