I can find a FEW vendors who can sell directly for systems in the 14" deep size, but they all seem to be targeting 17" racks, *NOT* 19" racks..
17" racks? Who's got 17" racks? 19" wide racks have 17.75" clearance between rails for the equipment. 19" is OUTSIDE dimension of the rails on both the rack and the server; 18.375" center-to-center between holes. Vendors offering 17" servers with rack rail option are selling 19" rail equipment. Yes, the 14.00" depth is a nasty constraint your client has dealt you. Getting a computer to fit into that may cost more than redesigning for a deeper cabinet! Especially since typically the power cable comes out of the back and thus requires a inch or two clearance, a 14.0" deep server may not fit in your 14.00" deep rack if you want to power it up, which usually is a firm customer requirement. The ABMX servers appear to be standard power-in-the-back, so they may be a problem, even if they're 14.00". You can try sending your engineering spec to the vendors of the 17x14 servers, to see if they can deal with lack of clearance at the back. There must be server cases designed to fit Telecom racks. Check for "Carrier Grade" servers perhaps? I was told "standard" "telecom racks" were 600mm with 20"D servers normal -- who stole 4" from you? Thinking "outside the box" ... * bolting a laptop onto a rack-hung tray (yes, they make these) (they look like L from the side and U from the front.) * biting the bullet and changing the enclosure to bring down the total cost * building your own whitebox server from parts in custom 17x12 drawers (or magic 17x14 with special cable access from the side/top?). * Can you use an "embedded" brick or SBC computer? (on the "tray" or epoxied to the wall or bundled into another compartment?) Good luck, or failing that, good hunting. -- Bill [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss
