The problem of Software as a Service is unrelated to whether the software running on the server is free software.
If you use SaaS, you have lost control of your computing, because it is done on a server controlled by someone else. It makes no different for you whether the software on Google's server is free, because either way YOU can't change it. I am writing an article about this.
