I got a mail confirming that KA pays 80% of the gate receipts and not 50% as stated (which I got from tiatrist themselves). With 80% payout, it comes to about 4,000 more in the stated example. In another news item in today's TOI, it was said professional Tiatrist/group got 75% of the gate receipts too (First popular tiatr festival by TAG Feb.2010). Which means they got another 25,000+ if the show was houseful, I know most of them were full. Margao Pai Tiatrist Hall Capacity is around 1150 and the tickets were priced at Rs.30 Looks like the partipating groups got over 50,000 and the winners got upto 70,000

Although it is too late for this year, I am sure this will definitely help those who are regulars and others in the coming years. I have personally interacted with some of the troupes leaders last year and I was pained to listen to their grievances. Some of them (including award winning) said they could not even recover a quarter of the money they spent from their pockets. Kala Academy pays them half of the actual revenue collected by sale of tickets for their show. e.g. if the hall is say half empty, they would get half of 450 i.e. 225x30 = 6750 Knowing the problems and the hardship they face, I would like to suggest Tiatr Academy to increase the level to atleast Rs.15,000 and may be even made effective from last year so that everyone is covered from the year of TAG's establishement. I know, lot of efforts and money are put into to give us their best. ========= Let me also make a small confession Seeing our tiarists spending about 1500 every year on their stage photographs (paying a regular professional photographer) I, as a tiatr lover, had deputed one photographer to take stage pics of each and every participating groups. Depending upon the quality, many got upto 40 bigger than the usual post card size prints. Almost all got it on very next day of their performance. Sadly, this will not happen this year.. ========= And I strongly feel that it should be TAG’s one of the prime areas to look after the Non-commercial or New and upcoming artists. If my memory is right, I think TAG paid Rs.25,000 as honorarium to each participating professional groups during its First ever Popular Tiatr Festival/competition held last year. At this time, I would once again like the Question our TAG on as to when we will have our Own Tiatr Academy Website? Also, the many wrong emails and phone numbers supplied in the TAG’s First Directory of Tiatrists needs to be sorted out Long Live Tiatr Press note: TAG to support Non-Commercial Tiatr Troupes In the meeting of the Executive Board of Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) held on 8th September 2010, it was unanimously resolved to give financial support to Dramatic Troupes participating in the yearly Tiatr Festival organised by Kala Academy Goa. The financial assistance to be given to each troupe is Rs.10,000/-. The purpose behind this scheme is to help the producers of Tiatr to improve the quality of stage setting, light effects, background music, costumes, make-up and direction. TAG is of the opinion that this financial support will help the tiatr producers to stage a better performance which will lead in the improvement of the standard of Tiatr. In fact the participants of yearly Tiatr Festival had sent a memorandum to the President of TAG explaining thereby the need of financial support to the participating troupes as it is given to commercial tiatr artistes for participating in the Popular Tiatr Festival organised by TAG. In order to explain the details of the scheme to the participanting troupes of the 36th Tiatr Festival, a meeting of all concerned is called on 15th September 2010 at 4:30 pm at TAG’s Conference Hall. The representatives of the participating troupes are requested to attend the meeting. The scheme will be made applicable to all the participating troupes of the 36th Tiatr Festival organised by Kala Academy Goa which is due to commence from 21st September 2010 at Kala Academy.
