Short Documentary on Fr. Antonio Joao de Miranda,
Founder of Hospicio Hospital
Based on an article from Late Zito Almeidaʼs Konknni book, "Goy Mhojea
Sopnantlem Painnem", a short documentary titled "PRESCRIPTION OF CHARITY" on
Rev. Fr. Antonio Joao de Miranda, founder of Hospicio Hospital, Margao, is
conceptulized and narrated by Walter Menezes.
In the book, the author has ensured to bring it to light to the new generation
who may not know this great soul who established "Hospicio do Sagrado Coracão
de Maria"! On a fund-raising mission one day, a wealthy man spits on his hand.
But Fr. Miranda, in all humility says, “Hi luti tunvem mhaka dili mhunn Dev
borem korum. Atam hospisek kitem tuzo duddvancho adhar diuncho asa to
di.” [This spit is for me. May you be Blessed. Now kindly donate some money for
the Hospicio].
So touched is the man that he not only gives but also asks to be forgiven.
Hospicio Hospital is considered an unique edifice in its own right. Fr.
Miranda died on January 20, 1891.
The documentary is 4.40 minutes duration with the Camera, Editing and Direction
by Melwyn Pereira and Dale Menezes. The documentary has been partly shoot
at the residence of Jasmina/Antonio Pereira at Navelim, Salcette.

As in the past, the Founder's Day will be celebrated with a Mass by Hospicio
Hospital on Tuesday, 20th January 2009 at its Chapel, the day Fr Miranda died.
