Well, the other question is whether or not you can make a family-wage career out of it. I've done custom costuming from home for more than 10 years. While the extra money is nice, it will never, ever be enough to support me completely.
Now, the University of Rhode Island had a lovely masters' program in textile conservation that I would have been all over in a shot--were it not for the fact that I live in Washington State and want to continue to live in Washington State. 3,000 miles is a bit too long to commute....
