Penny, your project and class opportunity sound like fun.

Re the dating, I have a suspicion that the boxes being misdated is probably
because the person labeling the tags simply did not understand the
difference between Nineteenth Century and 1900s.  I have dealt with that
issue a lot.  In our school tours last week for fifth graders I hammered the
point as part of my speil.

I once had a customer have me do her up in a "Nineteenth C." ball gown for a
dancing party.  When she returned it, she explained to me that it was
lovely, but not the right period.  I then had the conversation with her
about the Ages!!  All news to her.
