** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Aug 19 at 1818, LRA36 is on with
another reliable Saturday afternoon broadcast, S6/S8 as I tune in via
Argentine remote. Chatting, crediting this as joint produxion with
Universidad de Quilmes and RAE. After lunch, recheck at 1851 it`s off
- normally there are abrupt transmission breaks, or sometimes never
returning. This time it does at *1853, still chatting about Antastuff.
By 1907 songs. 1912 contact info, ``comunicad``. Greetings to/from
nearby Arglisteners. I suspect most of them there hearing via domestic
LRA network relays; but also a ham call mentioned. 1954 still going
with Quilmes plug. 2011 Uniendo Voces ID. 2026 check still going. And
at 2208, but off by 2222. Sorry, but this afternoon I am multi-tasking
including listening to other emissions (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Rafael Rodríguez R. in Colombia writes me, and I translate:

``RHC 9700 kHz Bauta -- This was published in the FB group `Todo sobre
Radio y Diexismo` by Engineer José Ibrahim Pose Morera, in charge of
the Bejucal transmission center. It`s his opinion of what could have
happened to the RHC signal on 9700 from Bauta.``

``Sometimes satellite receivers are used as backup linx in case the
main routes fail. The satellite receivers sometimes ``de-program``
themselves with failures of AC or abrupt voltage changes, going to
channel 00 which is Cubavision. It`s necessary to reboot them to
return to the RHC channel. I`m not 100% certain that it`s like this at
Bauta, but it is in my work. Aggravating the situation at Bauta is
that the programming transmitted on this frequency is in English and
may not be perceived by the operator. It also could happen that a
transmission starts OK and later this happens.``

Is he suggesting that ``Cadillac Man`` in English was being broadcast
on Cubavision? There are about 10 different channels, and it seems not
unusual to be running Yanqui movies late at night. Maybe with original
English sound, but subtitled. Program skeds do not want to go back in
time, at

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, Aug 19 at 1831, propagation quite degraded,
but I do detect JBA carriers here direct, two of them making a beat,
so surely Dengê Welat, Tashkent site? and on very slightly different
frequency, Turkish jamming from Emirler. No other carriers in the
17450-17495 range except there`s often algo on 17495 where nothing is
listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 19 at 2200, no signal direct from VOT
English, not even JBA carrier; not checked UTwente until 2210, now
it`s on so must have started late. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler. News until 2212, then multi-lingual ID filler reel.
2230-2234, `Gripping Piles` [?], on UNESCO banning smartphones, in
schools? At first I thought they were saying ``sulfites``! Usual
mixture with musix. 2252 usual canned jumbled s/off and IS. By 2257
still on interspersing German IDs; 2300 almost accurate timesignal and
opening German, as the op must be dozing instead of turning off before
2300. Something else is always erroneous at Emirler. Still going past
2313 when I check the signal: S9+40. I wonder what their audience in
Germoeurope is like past 1 am? It made no sense in the first place to
run German at that hour even on satellite and internet program feed.
Still going at 2321, 2338. It could be abruptly interrupted if they
awaken. 2353 s/off until the rehearing, and IS. 2357 starts Portuguese
IDs. This language is not supposed to be on SW at any hour. Good
timing for Brasil, but would only hit ouvintes by chance unless they
know to keep checking every night. 2400 almost accurate TS and s/on
with satellite parameters only for Portugal and Brasil --- but finally
chopped off air at 2401* before I could get to check out reception in
Brasília. Neither EiBi nor Aoki account for these bonus broadcasts
sporadically after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: confirmed Saturday

** U S A. Tropo is up for DTV around here. Besides the usual Tulsans
on 20, 26, 28, 34, I am getting solid decode from only one Wichita
station, KAKE ``10`` on RF 10; not often seen here with antenna aimed
at OKC. From circa 0300 UT Aug 19. Rabbitears.info shows KAKE is on
both RF 10 and RF 21 from exactly the same tower, why? More power on
VHF; I think I have seen it before on 21 but not now. Subchannels
match r-e info.
10-1 KAKE-DT ABC
10-2 MeTV
10-3 Bounce
10-4 Defy
10-5 SCRIPPS news
After 0400 I stick with SCRIPPS for a MAUI Lost Island special, tho I
could also get it on 62-5 OKC. Finally at 0456, 10-1 signal breaks up
and away. But there are still plenty of BAD sigs, including RF 6,
which on my ch 7+ antenna I always assume is KBSD Dodge City KS,
without evidence to contrary. Indeed, APRS tropo blob now extends out
to Ensign area (Glenn Hauser, Enid, OK, WOR)
