Not sure what you actually need or whether you're developing the analytical tool yourself. Here's some templates that are freely available to do hospital cost analysis. You can download these templates here at this url.
Maybe someone will write the scripts to export the relevant data from VistA databases using Fileman Export? KB_SQL? into these templates. Kelvin? :)

CostIt (*Cost*ing *I*nterventions *t*emplates) is a software designed to record and analyse cost data. It is not a data-collection tool but can guide the development of instruments for collecting primary data. The main function of CostIt software, completely automated, is to calculate the economic costs of interventions, however, it can also be used to estimate financial costs. It provides a set of separate templates for the reporting and analysis of costs at the programme, hospital, primary health facility and household levels.

This is a very powerful (and much underused) tool.

You might be able to do it even faster using the Fileman Export to Foreign format tool.

The input to this software is flat text files
containing datas extracted
from the HIS. That's why I think getting data out of
the db with sql
seems to be the solution. However if you think

been working yet
with openvista i don't know exactly what is possible
and what is not.

You would just write a short M routine that would
access the data you want, open a text file, and write
it out.
