Dear all,

Among the many Passover Haggadot we see annually, some are more
interesting than others.

Tevunot has published 'Peninei HaRaSHAR Hirsh.' Alternatively titled
'Haggada Shel Pesah im Rayonot ve-beurim meshulavim be-meshalim..' by
Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch z'l, of Frankfurt am Main., The book is
edited by R' Shalom Meir ha-Cohen Wallach in honor of the 200th
anniversary of the birth of this important 19th Cent CE German Jewish
sage. (hard cover – with nikkud / vocalization) Cat. #70526 $19.00

Feldheim has published the Haggada Shel Pesah ba ne'esfu ve-sudru
shorshe ha-halakhot ..' by/of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein z"l. This is
what I call 'good Feldheim.' It is scholarly, collecting much halakha
and custom with copious footnotes and cites to sources. Rav Feinstein
was a major 20th Cent CE American Jewish leader, posek, and educator
(as spiritual head) at Yeshiva University in NY. With appendices
including index of books / Rabbinic bibliography. Cat.#70527 $19.00

We have also gotten the recent Haggadat Eretz Hagar / Haggadah Shel
Pesach, of the Hatam Sofer, leading figure of Hungarian /
Austro-Hungarian Jewish (19th Cent. CE) Orthodoxy. Cat. #70374 $17.00

Perhaps lesser known is 'Haggadah shel Pessah im Perush Perah Shushan..'

Which is published by Machon Bene Issachar, R' Moshe Bar Maimon
Elbaz. This is a 16th Cent. CE work, first published now from
manuscript, of the generation after the expulsion from Spain. Cat.
70427 $ 27.00

I would like to highlight the two new Passover Haggadot, published In
Hebrew and English, here in Jerusalem Israel, by the Schechter Institute, 2009.

The Schechter Haggada - Cat. #70503 $40.00

The Schechter Haggadah: Art, History and Commentary presents a
fascinating discussion and analysis of the historical development of
each aspect of the Seder, from the development of the Mah Nishtanah
to the use of horseradish as maror, to the larger question of how new
seder rituals were established and infused with meaning. Along with
the traditional Hebrew text and English commentary, The Schechter
Haggadah is adorned with over 100 illuminations from Haggadot from
the medieval and modern periods.

The Schechter Haggadah, written by educator and Talmud instructor Dr.
Joshua Kulp, with illuminations edited by Professor David Golinkin,
President of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, is a
"must-have" volume for anyone interested in understanding the rich
traditions of the Seder.

The Schechter Haggadah contains many pages of in depth analysis of
Talmud and Midrash on the text, critical analysis and comparison of
manuscripts are employed to provide a rich understanding of the texts
and their influences and development over time. This approach is
enlightening for scholars and everyone interested in this most
powerful Jewish textual ritual. This systematic scientific approach
is the hallmark of the Schechter Institute and is the evolution of
the brilliant scholarship of Saul Lieberman.

This Haggada is to my mind the cream of the 2009 crop and will be a
classic work studied for years to come. ISBN 978-965-7105-59-7

And Haggadat Lovell Cat. #70502 $28.00

The Lovell Haggada has beautiful artwork and an English translation
by Rabbi Matthew Berkowits. The wonderful Haggadah is recommended for
every English speaking and reading family In Israel, the US, Canada

Israeli ordained Masorti – Conservative Rabbi. He is also a leader
in Jewish Education and has produced a useful, beautiful soft cover

ISBN 978-965-7105-51-1

Another lovely work that has been around for a number of years is now
available with an English translation:

Rebirth of Israel Passover Haggada . Cat. 70448 $ 40.00

Illustrations and Design by David Harel . Editor: Haya Harel .
Introduction by Rabbi Yochanan Fried. Hardcover, large format, 144
pages, full color. Published by Harel Publishing, 2009

ISBN 13: 978-965-91364-0-7

This bilingual edition of "The Rebirth of Israel Passover Haggadah"
is a unique Haggadah that draws an analogy between the idea of
freedom and exodus – inherent in the Passover Festival – and the
national liberation and rebirth of the Jewish people in the modern
era. The traditional text of the Passover Haggadah in Hebrew and in
English is accompanied by illustrations and historical overviews that
illuminate watershed events along the modern history of the Land of
Israel, from the First Aliyah immigration and the inception of the
modern Zionist Movement until the establishment of the State of Israel.

This exceptional Haggadah offers its readers a new insight to the
Exodus epic just as it was faithfully handed down throughout the
generations by the invocation of the commandment: "And thou shalt
relate it to thy child on that day".
