So the question would be IF the extra weight of a Megamoose does in fact enhance the 'slotting' of tones without the loss of slurring ability and it allows for louder dynamics without overblowing as suggested does the DW booster when placed on an independent mpc do the same or not? And does the annealing(I'm not really sure what's done here) process with the Megamoose to become a Cartouche version make a verifiable significant difference from the Megamoose?
I have tried the same Moosewood mouthpiece in the standard version, the annealed version (standard weight), and the megamoose version. I didn't notice a big difference in slotting between the standard and annealed mouthpiece, the annealed one just sounded better (and I bought it and still use it). There was certainly a difference in the way the megamoose slotted, but I didn't like the sound and didn't give it much additional thought. I never tried a cartouche, which is basically an annealed megamoose.
My advice: try the mouthpiece in as many of the versions as you can and decide which one sounds and feels best TO YOU. The easiest way to do this is to find Tom at a horn workshop or take a trip to Phoenix.
I would hate to spend over $130+ for a mouthpiece without plenty of experimentation.
