I'm now using a recent snapshot of 3.2 in production, although in a
somewhat unorthodox fashion. I've tied htdig to PostgreSQL, in that it
is indexing objects I define in Postgres, and indexing is triggered by
PL/pgsql scripts. This basically allows me to do things like this:
a=# SELECT ads_id, hed_en, htdig.ord
a-# FROM ads, htdig('Room for rent', 'classified_en')
a-# WHERE ads.ads_id = htdig.itm_id
a-# ORDER BY htdig.ord ASC
a-# LIMIT 5;
ads_id | hed_en | ord
---------+--------------------------------------------------------+-----
1035126 | Great room to rent | 1
1036054 | Furnished bedroom in new 4  condo for rent (Mar. 1st) | 2
1036721 | Kosher room for rent | 3
1034323 | FULLY FURNISHED ROOMS AVAILABLE FOR RESERVATION NOW | 4
1035316 | Phenomenal Room For Rent | 5
(5 rows)
I haven't had many problems in terms of htDig not doing what it should
(other than my lack of understanding some documentation) and have had
only a couple segfaults (htfuzzy on non-existing files).
FWIW, htdig is our search engine in the following URLs
http://www.mcgill.ca/calendar/
http://www.mcgill.ca/classified/
http://www.mcgill.ca/newswire/
and it is working superbly so far. When I'm finished building our new
search tool (heavily based around htDig and PostgreSQL), I'll be sure to
put up documentation as to what/how I did it for anyone who's
interested.
If there's a way I can help with testing, please let me know and I'll
do what I can.
Cheers,
Chris
