Here is what I did on my box to be able to type in Hindi in OpenOffice.org
using SCIM.
abbe [~] chateau $ ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim-bridge
~/.xinput.d/${LANG/.UTF-8/}
Above will enable SCIM applications-wide, so all your applications are
using SCIM as default input method. Don't want this, then try
following:
abbe [~] chateau $ . /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim-bridge
abbe [~] chateau $ export XIM XIM_PROGRAM XIM_ARGS GTK_IM_MODULE QT_IM_MODULE
DEPENDS
abbe [~] chateau $ ooffice &
If above works, create a wrapper shell script to launch ooffice.
And then I logged out and logged-in, started up OpenOffice.org in a
New document mode, and started typing in Hindi after pressing
Ctrl+Space.
Following is the list of scim packages, I've installed:
abbe [~] chateau $ dpkg -l |awk '/scim/ {print $2 }'
