From this, it seems as though ctl_cyrusdb *should* be able to archive (assuming that it archives to either /var/imap or /var/spool/imap). I was motivated to post the original question on the off-chance that ctl_cyrusdb backs up in some way other than to the obvious places (/var/imap and /var/spool/imap).

Obviously, I am concerned about deploying the mail server with these errors in place.
Can somebody familiar with how the "ctl_cyrusdb" archives its data offer any advice?
What are the permissions on /var/imap/db?
