We use Retina and Nessus too. Languard is a good tool (and free) but not comparable to the first ones. Then you can use SARA to audit your network and could be more specific auditing the most 20 critical vulnerabilities (SANS INSTITUTE). Try it.
Chris, for firewalkin testing you should visit www.osstmm.org where you find links to useful tools. Nessus is nice and free, but not Windows based. It's a client/server setup, the reporting console can be a Windows client, but the actual scanner is Linux based. I set up a dual-boot XP/Linux laptop server so I can take the scanner to different locations in our network and scan from different directions to get different views, all initiated from my PC (running XP). Snort is a good IDS (one of the best) and free. There are Windows versions, but I run the Linux version, tied into a mySQL database using ACID reporting, very cool. -Mitch Planck, CNE, CCNA -----Original Message----- From: Scott Morris [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 08, 2002 10:20 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [isp-security] Re: Winows-based network scanner I use Retina (www.eeye.com).
