Josh Elser commented on SPARK-17445:
------------------------------------

bq. are you suggesting changes instead of http://spark-packages.org which ASF
page URL ?

Ugh, I see that the Apache Spark website also directly links to
spark-packages.org via Libraries > Third-Party Packages. As an outsider to your
community, this looks like bias given to this non Apache Spark entity. I get
the impression that when I want "Third party packages" for Apache Spark, the
only option I have is this single website which is controlled by a commercial
entity.

I would strongly encourage that the direct link from the nav-bar in the
Libraries menu be removed, and a "Third-Party Packages" page be created that
lists spark-packages.org as one alternative, pointing your users to the (I'm
assuming) diverse collection of packages available to use with Spark. This page
should also clearly state that these packages are not a part of Apache Spark.

Then, you can change your code to only reference the official Apache Spark
website and give equal treatment to all third-party entities.

> Reference an ASF page as the main place to find third-party packages

> say to go to spark-packages.org, but since this is a package index
> maintained by a third party, it would be better to reference an ASF page that
> we can keep updated and own the URL for.
