Preface: I know this is not a direct iText API question and am not necessarily
looking for someone to make me a PDF expert (though I will take as much help as
anyone might be willing to give) This question is more about how I might use
iText in conjunction with something we are experiencing. I do have a working
knowledge of iText and use it for some basic PDF generation and manipulation.
If an answer to my question would require a book, then a simple push in the
right direction would also be appreciated (I do have the iText in Action book).
If this post is too far off for this mailing list, then take my apologies in
advance and simply let me know.
Issue: We are using Adobe SDK to simply distill some PDFs automatically.
However, there are a small number of files that we receive from outside sources
that take a VERY long time to process. In particular, I am seeing one now that
is a mere 5,093KB in its original form. However, when distilling, it is
creating a temporary file that is still in progress and already over 9GB in
size. This difference in size/time might have a very good reason but seems to
indicate something is amiss (to me). So, my basic question is this:
Does anyone know what might be happening based on the PDF standard and how I
might use iText to investigate, identify, and correct[1] these types of files?
[1] If indeed there is anything actually "wrong" with them.
Thanks for any knowledge you might be willing to share,
Rick Wellman
