Hi!

Thank you for your answer!

There is no way in the TechNet Gallery to use AGPL.

What are compatible licenses?

I could publish it at CodePlex. There you can choose between this licenses:

* Apache License 2
* New BSD License
* Common Development and Distribution License
* Eclipse Public License
* GPLv2
* LGLP
* MIT License
* Mozilla Public License 2.0
* Microsoft Public License (MS-PL)
* Microsoft Reciprocal License (MS-RL)

Is any of them “compatible” to AGPL?

Otherwise I will publish the project without re-distributing iTextSharp. So
users would have to download and link iTextSharp.

Regards
Ingo

  Hi all!

  I've created a communtiy project that I want to publish for download on
Microsoft Technet Gallery. It uses iTextPDF for C#. I'd like to include the
compiled library in the package. My own code is also included in the package.

  When uploading an package at Microsoft Technet Gallery you have to choose
between
  * Technet Terms of Use (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/cc300389.aspx) or
  * MS-LPL license.

  My question to you:
  Is it OK and legal to publish an open source project like mine and include
the compiled version of iTextPDF in the package?

iTextSharp is licensed under the AGPL which is a very viral license. Using the
compiled DLL is legally considered as a modification, so the AGPL kicks in.
This means you can only use iTextSharp in combination with licenses that are
compatible with the AGPL (there aren't many).

I'm pretty sure the MS-LPL isn't compatible. The "Technet Terms of Use" doesn't
look like an actual license. It reads as the terms of use put in place by
Microsoft. Isn't there an option to post your code as AGPL software?

If not, please give us some time. We've registered as a Microsoft member last
week, and we're in the process of examining if we can become a Microsoft Silver
Partner. We'll forward your question to our contact at Microsoft and we'll
forward his answer to you.
