0.3.7a w/o the patch:

I get the same as you. Even on liveTV. When I start watching, my TV
flips to <wide>. If I pause and then skip to catchup, it's back to 4:3
permanently. This is an accompanying log snippet:

[start watching LiveTV]

Aug 8 17:26:14 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: VBI insertion started
Aug 8 17:26:15 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: Decoder VBI RE-Insert start
0x0019ac00 size 0x0000be00 type 1
Aug 8 17:26:16 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Widescreen Mode 16:9 Full Format
Aug 8 17:26:16 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Turn WSS on

[pause for 1 minute, unpause and then skip 30s]

Aug 8 17:27:59 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Widescreen Mode 4:3 Full Format
Aug 8 17:27:59 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Turn WSS off
Aug 8 17:27:59 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: Decoder VBI RE-Insert start
0x0019ac00 size 0x0000be00 type 1

0.3.7b + wss VBI patch:

Same result, slightly different logs, reflecting Hans' changes:

Aug 8 17:41:51 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: VBI insertion started
Aug 8 17:41:53 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: Decoder VBI RE-Insert start
0x0019ac00 size 0x0000be00 type 1
Aug 8 17:41:54 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Widescreen Mode 16:9 Full Format
Aug 8 17:42:59 mythtv1 kernel: saa7127: Widescreen Mode 4:3 Full Format
Aug 8 17:42:59 mythtv1 kernel: ivtv: Decoder VBI RE-Insert start

Cheers,
Wilf.
