Hi Brian, I banged my head for awhile and did some google'ing. I found this SuSE rpm:
ivtv-0.3.2c-5.nosrc.rpm I built new binaries from this which required the firmware files. An rpm -qpl on each of them showed me that the files were going into the hotplug directory. So I learned what was causing the earlier failure and I think the rpm was the better way to install at least for this OS. Thanks for your reply.
