Scott,
"cardtype" modprobe.conf variable was gotten rid of, around version 0.3.7, but there appears to be a bug still in the old cardtype=1 cards. So, I have a source patch, look in my PVR550 thread. There is a "diff" file to apply via 'patch -p1 < yyy.diff'. Re-build, install, and see if that fixes you. As an alternative, edit cx25840.c, and change the default "cardtype=0" at the top to cardtype=1. This will set the module up correctly. My patch does stuff to get my PVR550 to work, you might need my full patch. ??

Again, there are no options to cx25840 needed in the modprobe.conf anymore.

Subject: Re: [ivtv-devel] People with sound problems: please test

I think this is related, but I don't have this type of card to test.
I have the Diamond PVR550, but it uses "cardtype=1" in the cx25840 driver. I think the 150 and 500 both use the same module, and I found a bug with ivtv sets the card type, but doesn't update the input_layout structure. I submitted a patch that works as of yesterday's build in this list under a thread regarding PVR-550 or PVR550.
Might want to try and see if that fixes it.
Without the fixes, I got video but NO sound.
If I forced cardtype to 0, I got sound, but no video.
My patch, fixed it for my card..

Robert

No dice for me there:

dmesg | grep cx25840
cx25840: Unknown parameter `cardtype'
cx25840: loading /lib/modules/HcwMakoA.ROM
ivtv: i2c attach to card #1 ok [client=cx25840[50], addr=44]
