The important, relatively recent development is that screenreader users no 
longer need to install JAWS Access Bridge in order for them to work with 
Java. JAB is now incorporated into the download. JAB used to be a nightmare.

Java is now produced by Oracle, which bought out its developer, Sun Micro.
