Doing something like that might be possible if you knew enough about JAWS scripting. Beyond that, you'd have to use a resource editor and modify what Thunderbird currently labels Shift+F5 as. And that assumes that Thunderbird is coded to use resource data to define dialogs and menus, rather than dynamically building them at run time.

Hola SeƱor Ferrin,

yes, but basically, I just wanted to know if it could be done within the
Jaws keyboard manager or, in the Settings Center using a Jaws feature /
function I wasn't aware of. Thunderbird was an example, but no matter what
the program is, it sounds like that programs coding would have to be
modified, & that would be the only way. Thanks much for the verification.

You want to do this without modifying any dictionary if I understand you
correctly.

It sounds like you want to break in to the code for thunderbird and
reprogram what the key labels read out. Sounds tuff to me, above my pay
scale.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Customizing Key Labels

Hi All,

Is it possible to change what Jaws reports for particular keystrokes other
than modifying the applications Jaws dictionary or the default Jaws
dictionary? For example, in Thunderbird, when pressing, Shift + F5, is it
possible to make Jaws report, Getting Mail? If this is possible, would
someone please provide steps on how this is done? All help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!
