Miriam, Okay, yet another method, one that always works for me without sighted assistance on my Windows 7 computer.
1. First, make sure nothing is "selected" in the list you want to alphabetize. If JAWS says the item in focus is selected, press control-spacebar to unselect it. 2. Press the applications key, between the right-hand Windows and control keys. 3. Arrow down to "Sort by..." Press enter. 4. On my system, the first item that comes up is "Name." If this isn't checked, press the spacebar. Now, if that doesn't solve the problem, repeat steps 1 through 3 again and press enter on "sort by." Now arrow down to "Ascending." On my system, either "Ascending" or "descending" can be checked. I have "ascending" checked and "descending" unchecked. No need for sighted assistance to confirm. I had to ask a sighted person to do it with the mouse. That sighted person is my daughter, who is rather impatient, so I'm not goint to be able to get her to do this with all the files in Documents. If I shift tab, I get to a tree few where I can open or close things. But I can't change the order from a to z in the documents folder or the sub folders within it.
