Hi Lisa,

We got this program from the link provided and I just got it installed on my husband's computer with a hot key asigned. I knew about this or should say I've heard of it, but I always thought it was just for music playing or to that affect. So good to know that now without his speech, I can press the hot key*alt-control-V* and we should be back in business.
Thanks very much for bringing this to my attention.

Patricia

Hi, Patricia.

Here's something that may help.

There's a free utility called Quickmix that will automatically restore your volume settings with a hotkey you assign.

This has gotten me out of jams several times when I had no sounds on boot up. I'm using XP home, but it works on all flavors of XP, as far as I know. You can learn more and download it at the JFWLite page.
I've pasted the information and the URL below. HTh

QuickMix allows you to store all or part of the current state of your audio mixer in a settings file, and to restore the mixer to that state whenever you
want.

Well that still did nothing.
The speakers when the volume dial is moved we do hear the sub woofer base coming from them and the computer boots up to the desktop and it goes to this run box as my husband can see enough to see the changes on his monitor and can recognize the desktop. I don't think it's a computer window's problem but somewhere the volume has got out of wack somehow. Last night it worked fine go figure..
My desktop hasn't experienced any problems nor the laptop.
I guess we will have to wait till someone with sight can come here and see what's going on.
Thank you for your help and I saved those instructions smiles.

Patricia
