Thanks TJ, I think the problem is fixed. I ran scandisk with both options checked, it took a long time but fixed it.

Have you cleaned your computer - deleting files that sort of thing before the problem started ? If your answer is no to any of the previous questions, I would run a system restore to a day or two before you noticed the problem. Then keep an eye on what Microsoft updates you have to reinstall and see if any of the updates are causing your problem.
