Just to amplify what Ernest said below, let's assume that you are checking to see if something does not exist. For example, we are asking if there are NO red sports cars in the lot that have a 300hp or greater motor. If there are no red sports cars like that, does the car have a radio? Or, if there are no red sports cars like that, what is the hp of the motor? Either question is nonsense since there are not red sports cars to check. :-)
