This is excellent Ola, thank you very much. I will try out Gems with what you have so far of zlib today. At any rate it's far, far better than what we had before (which was nothing, of course!). Thank you for your continuing contributions!

I am running JRuby from HEAD, so this error doesn't make sense. It seems
as if the script isn't running in my CWD, which makes it impossible to
find the needed file.
