Just to add that I run a PC here with 2GB of RAM and have found that it runs better with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Over XP. All of the hardware in the PC is 64 bit ready so, am sure that helps.

It's not your fault, this gets pretty confusing. 64 bits in regards to Sonar's audio engine merely means that tracks are mixed internally with 64 bits of headroom, meaning when several tracks are summed together their output shouldn't come close enough to the top to clip at any point during the processing. This can be run on any edition of Windows. The 64-bit version of the Sonar program must be run on a 64-bit version of Windows which itself can only be run on a 64-bit processor. Most processors these days and in the last, oh, five years (Intel Adams, for the most part, aside, but you only see those in netbooks) are 64 bit capable. This has to do with memory addressing and is unrelated to audio processing. Theoretically it would make playback of large multitrack projects smoother but you would then need a computer with more than 4 gigs of RAM and a project approaching 4 gigs in size. But that doesn't effect the sound itself. It's also worth mentioning that while there is a 64-bit version of XP, you really don't want it; by the time the industry had started to accept 64 bit, it had moved on to Vista, and Vista wasn't all that great an OS. If you stick with XP you are going to run into a world of pain as many hardware manufacturers did not bother to make drivers at all and the ones that did don't tend to maintain them very well. For that reason, if you want to go 64 bit, make sure to have at least 4 gigabytes of RAM and use Windows 7.
