Right on, Gabriel! In the past, I have done miracles even with an old Canvas and before with an older ill-sounding Kawai! Now, could someone please let me know if the EWQL is compatible with Jscripts 8.5 and Sonar 8? I am specially interested in the setting of sounds! Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Best,

Rubens

Exactly ... That's why I said they could use with my machine ... And if I really wanted to work with more audio tracks and soft sint in general, I could simply use the resources "Freese" and "unfreese" which also help a lot. This thesis stating that the most basic machines can not take anything away from performance to me is not true, I even did a musical production in cubase using more than 4 tracks only virtual instruments and the result was even more than expected. It's hard to believe, but if you know your equipment and knows the limits he has, you can do miracles with it even if it is really something quite simple. Thanks,
Gabriel

Chris,

I basically agree with you, however, what one can do with Sonar and a lesser
powered computer does depend somewhat on what kinds of projects a person is
working on.

For example, if you're just recording and processing a single stereo track,
this might work okay. Processing might take a bit longer, but it will work.
Maybe even having a midi track or two with soft synths would be okay.

but, as you say, as soon as you get into a reasonably sized project, you
could be severely bogged down.

go look at the minimum specs cakewalk recommends for sonar 8.5

then go do your research on the differences
between a real computer and a netbook, the
sub-systems, and ram, and slow hard-drives etc.

Daws require a lot more from a computer, and yes,
the sound card is only one of those issues, you
might have gotten by with using sonar 6, but it
couldn't have run well on a netbook.

Cubass is a good product, and well respected in
the industry, again I submit it's probably your
inadequate hardware which is causing the problem.

Nothing personal, I've been doing this a lot of
years, and I teach this stuff every day.

I just wish to save you lots of frustration,
because you will eventually come to the
conclusion that you need better hardware.

I guarantee no audio professionals in any studio
would be using netbooks to do anything serious with.

If you are getting audio drop-outs, well, your computer can't keep up

YOu can disable certain things and try to squeeze
more performance by shutting down stuff, but your
already in a very marginal situation.

But if you know better, then I wish you lots of luck 'smile'.

Hello Chris.
Your observation is very interesting, I really
would have to have a more robust computer for
this purpose. But I want to note that when using sonar 6.0, the tools
could run reasonably well, and there were not
invested in an external card. You acknowledge
that, without using the external card, the computer has a greater amount
of information to process, since the basic
internal cards for computers are not designed
for such functions. Therefore, I disagree with the thesis that I could
not get any performance using a netbook, as I
said, I've had the experience to run VSTi
plugins on the board inside the netbook and I see no problem no run on the
sonar 8.0. As for the investment of a better
computer, I think everything has its time, I can
not go investing all the good and the best can not afford. So I believe
I can get reasonable performance with what I
have, and this can not be the only solution to solve the problem.
While I can not properly use sonar, I'm using
Cubase 5.0 with great difficulty, by its
interface more inaccessible than the performance
he is presenting on my machine,
which is very reasonable as not to get to
serious problems. Cubase was chosen in terms of
a music course and I'm doing is working relatively well. Even with respect
to two applications, cubase is much more
unstable than the sonar. In version 6 Sonar no
longer has support for most cards asio, lives in version 8.0 has problems
in time to put in effect by choosing tracks midi
controlers ... Anyway, I think this is not the
only solution. Greetings, Gabriel

It's a big mistake to expect any decent performance with a netbook.

netbooks are cheap low performance computers,
never mind the specs, what's under the hood is
roughly equivalent to a pentium 3 700 mhz
machine, and just be glad it's working at all.

I went through this with one of my students who
insisted on using a netbook, and we wasted lots
of time trying to put things to rights which will never work.

YOu just don't have a computer powerful enough to run sonar 8.5 properly.

I might run sonar 4 on it, or reaper
with light loads, not expecting any processing
but to track with, but you should get a more
powerful computer, and if you expect good laptop
performance, you need to be very picky and choosy
about which models, and again, you get what you pay for.

Best regards.
