I have sighted students for sonar too.
I do just fine with them.
Some of the strangeness that's happening to you is because of what
I've told you in other emails.
Come see me if all else fails, and I'll help clear the confusion.

Chriss, as usual you are very helpful. It was just that one thing I
was having an issue with but I'm not now. The windows vs mac debate
is a lot because Darrell says that there's nobody locally that can
teach him to use sonar. Of course, I tried but then he goes Ew, you
use the keyboard, I don't understand anything that doesn't involve
moving a mouse to it. And then... ew, jaws displays things funny
(always been a problem with sonar. It doesn't look the same as when
you don't run jaws. Then I'm like but if I don't have jaws going
how can I tell if you're where youi need to be or not? Then we just
get into that blind sighted argument. I'm sighted so my way is
better. Your way sucks. It carries over to life outside music
too. I'm trying to help my daughter with division so I pull out my
good old reliable abacus and work the problem explaining what I
did... and she goes but Mom the abacus doesn't make sense. Of
course it doesn't. And it's been so long since I tried to write one
out in braille and wait that's not going to help because she can't
see what I am doing there either. There is a reason I don't offer
to tutor people in math!!
So Darrell wants to take classes locally and they only teach on
macs at guitar center. But I'm afraid I won't be able to use one
of those because of the screen reader issues, and switching back
and forth between windows and mac sounds like a royal pain. But
there are a couple logistical reasons that it would make sense to
use a desktop. I could just leave the mo plugged in at all
times. Also everything is just right there. No battery running
out or whatever. Also could use the remote mode on the mo and have
sonar just up and running pretty much and if I understood you right
before, no hooking up through the damned audio box. Everything
would just be running through the computer and wired into the board
and so on and so forth. I could make some of the motif stuff
talk. I need to get some sample memory for that thing and learning
to sequence would not be a bad idea either.
I will figure it out eventually.

There are some video cards that don't work well with jaws and
display things irratically.
YOu can't change a display adapter in a laptop.
but I have had situations where I've had to switch out a display
adapter to make a screen-reader work better, and jaws is especially
sensitive to this sort of thing.

Wow, no comment Chriss. But fyi, I have gotten lots of stuff
done, I just don't need a lot to do what I do. That particular
problem worked better before I upgraded. Upgrading is good. But
as I said although it's something I'd like to figure out it's not
stopping me from writing. I can work around it. Mostly I fall
into your second category, I'm happily humming along and don't
think a new computer would fix my problem. It might fix other
problems I haven't foreseen yet but I think that particular
problem is a settings issue. In defense of your argument though,
I have actually been contemplating the computer idea just for ease
of access, everything right there all the time. But more about
that in another post.

Hey Chad,
Ain't like that in this situation.
This woman can get what she wants,
she just hasn't gotten aggrevated enough yet, or it ain't
important enough to her.
So yes,
there are two sets of students I've dealt with,
the really poor folks who have to make due with what they got,
then the ones who can afford what they need,
and get it and are happily humming along,
and then the unexplainables
like my friend
who insists they can put a square peg in a round hole,
and make it work never mind getting any music done 'smile'.
YOu might get lucky and hit key combinations and get things to
work haphazardly,
but for the live of me,
I don't see why someone who could do better doesn't?
Maybe some folks like it,
kind of reminds me of the moth that keeps flying in to the window though.
And too bad, because she's fairly talented.
Ah well, takes all kinds.
Peace out.

is way better than what I had before.

Hey I figured out what the deal was with the insert send
thing. I do not know why this works or what it's supposed to
do, but when in the track window and on the name of the track I
press the f8 key by itself, then when it says now measure 1 I
tab and it says track inspector and then again and it goes back
to the track window. For some reason after that little dance, I
can push control ap and it brings up the correct menu. Praise
the lord, finally figured out how to make that work, and I'm not
usually a person that goes around using that particular
expression... well at least not out loud. For me a praise the
lord moment is usually private. But I am super happy that I
figured this out. I am also happy that "Your Long Journey is
sounding very good except for a couple timing and mixing issues
which I will probably fix. But that is another story I suppose.
