What ever works for you Shell.I'll be happy to teach you basic editing with sonar if the scripts cooperate, and you are ready to get down to it.
I stand by what I said though, I think you'll run in to problems as you advance.
that could be avoided with a properly configured daw. At 12:44 PM 7/22/2011, you wrote:
Chriss, I have much respect for you but in this instance, you are not right. I do not sit around endlessly. When I get time to record, I am working. Not sitting. And as I said, I have the insert thing in the bag now. It is just one task that I ever had trouble with and everything else I've done works perfectly every time.-------------------------------------------------- From: "Chris Belle" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 22, 2011 11:57 AM To: "JSonar -- JAWS Scripts for Sonar discussion list" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Jsonar] insert send thing figured out... finallyDJX is someone I have a lot of respect for. he won't steer you wrong.YOu have to decide whether endless fiddling around is worth it trying to do simple tasks, or to bite the bullet and get the right tools which have already been recommended to you.Actually information you paid good money for.If you talked to Jim, or Brian smart, or someone over at adk, they'd tell you the same thing, laptops, especially off the shelf models aren't recommended for audio work. Some have had reasonal luck with the lenova think pad models, but to get a good audio laptop you'd pay a large chunk of change, Jim only carries one model and adk can outfit them, but everything about a laptop fights audio, slower hard-drive, heat, you are only recording in 16 bit now which will never get you the processing headroom and quality you need as you advance and need to use effects and such, I wonder how that toshiba will hold up if you start recording multiple drum tracks with a larger interface and at 24 bits. What gets you by now may not get you by then.Way better than that netbook you were trying to make work, but I think you are headed down a road of frustration. At the very least, you should upgrade to 8.5.3, many bugs were squashed in this version, there were problems with the early 8 series. We're all only trying to help you and keep you from comming back and ask the same old questions which we have no new answers for. You'll love it, your significant other will love it, and if it matters, your old teacher will love it because he'll know you're finally about the business of making music instead of endlessly twiddling with randon issues which are the bain of trying to make stuff work that isn't supposed to work. The world wants your talent. Get a real daw, and an mackie onyx 1640iand then the whole band can park it in the living room with beers and record everybody on a separate mic, even the drummer 'grin'.I love the mackie onyx 1640i, completely blind friendly, all hands on, analog board married to a great dac and firewire interface, low latency too, will go down to 32 samples at 44.1, but has direct inputs for bass and guitar, remember when you were complaining about not getting a good plug-in guitar sound, well, you have direct boxes on channels one and 2, you also have 6 aux sends for tons of headphone mixes, and 4 sub mixes to send anywhere else for mix downs and 16 lovely mic or line channels, no compromises.4 band eq with low and high shelfing and 2 sweepable mids yummy. It'll set you back 15 hundred, but man, if you serious about recording a band either live or studio, this is the board to have. They've got lesser units too, but I wouldn't get them, they only give you one return from the daw instead of 16 going both ways. These boards are delightful to use. Put your tascam on ebay and get you an onyx. happy recording. At 11:36 AM 7/22/2011, you wrote:Djx, thanks for the tip. Honestly, I do not know what I need as for now the laptop, minus the weird display issue with sonar, works fine. I'm sure some of that is because I never upgraded to 8.5 and some of it might be windows 7 but some of it could just be that I somehow set something wrong somewhere. It's kind of weird how that insert send thing kind of comes and goes. But like I said, I just don't have very complicated projects.; Seven tracks sometimes less, sometimes more depending on how creative I got with the drums, and whether I forgot to delete my midi tracks which are always empty at this point because midi and soft synths are just too much for my little mind to deal with, especially now that I have a motif, which I'm still learning about.-------------------------------------------------- From: "D!J!X!" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 8:00 PM To: "'JSonar -- JAWS Scripts for Sonar discussion list'" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Jsonar] insert send thing figured out... finallyHey you can also let me know what you need, and I can build it for you! We build all kinds of systems, from media centers to daws to data servers. Being blind myself, I fully understand and take all of our needs into consideration, along with the many tweaks and part configurations needed toget the best performance from the system. Not a sales pitch either, just thetruth lol. I generally like that company for other stuff, but take some advice for a change and don't make a bad move. You'll get a reasonable computer, but you'll pay way more than you should. Adk makes daws too, and they're well supported, but still you'll pay a lot. the guy many of us are using, including some that work for dancing dots who uses adk is jim roseberry over at studiocat.com aka Perfect Audio I've sent many of my students to him, and everybody's very happy. He is very sensitive to our special needs, and doesn't mark up his parts, and builds a top knotch machine as well as being a very fine fellow. He doesn't charge extra for little things, like sensible overclocking, software installations etc. We've bought two machines from him, an i5 and i7 respectively. They run like rockets, grinding up any project I've thrown at them without complaint. At 04:46 PM 7/10/2011, you wrote:Well I thought I'd figured it out. It doesn't seem to work when I'm trying to get it to work, like a new project. But on the projects where I've been recording a while I can get it to work for some reason. Still being quirky. Bet there's some kind of display setting messed up or something. Still I've progressed further than I had before. I know what you mean about having better stuff. I don't *need* a lot of effects to record the way I do. So my laptop works and certainly much better than my net book did. But my plan is to get a computer from sweetwater or somewhere that's designed for music that I can hook the motif to. I don't realoly want to hook it to the laptop. Btw, if anyone has suggestions for fixing "Your Long Journey" and all the timing problems I am having with the song, I'd be glad to send them the bundle. The bass mainly needs to be fixed. Of course, I guess I can play with it and fix it myself. Bluegrass stuff is always harder because they don't play by any strict rules about timing it's just kind of like well play how you feel it. That works well if you're experienced. But I will stop talking about that now since it's really not a jsonar question thing. I'm actually very grateful for what I have because It is way better than what I had before. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] To: <mailto:[email protected]>JSonar -- JAWS Scripts for Sonar list Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 12:24 AM Subject: [Jsonar] insert send thing figured out... finally Hey I figured out what the deal was with the insert send thing. I do not know why this works or what it's supposed to do, but when in the track window and on the name of the track I press the f8 key by itself, then when it says now measure 1 I tab and it says track inspector and then again and it goes back to the track window. For some reason after that little dance, I can push control ap and it brings up the correct menu. Praise the lord, finally figured out how to make that work, and I'm not usually a person that goes around using that particular expression... well at least not out loud. For me a praise the lord moment is usually private. But I am super happy that I figured this out. I am also happy that "Your Long Journey is sounding very good except for a couple timing and mixing issues which I will probably fix. But that is another story I suppose. ---------- _______________________________________________ Find JSonar and Sonar FAQs, articles, guides and downloads at jsonar.org.
