Thanks for the thoughts -- there is indeed merit in being honest about
authors in the way you recommend.

At the moment I know too little about Hamsun, his views and his life, but I
would like to learn more since he is such a fascinating figure (and as you
know, his very long life contained a whole lot more than the dubious
political views of his latter days), not unlike Jünger in his adventurous
spirit and free roaming mind. But from the things I do have read, calling
him a fascist and a lover of the nazis seems unfair and that especially
concerning his Growth of the Soil since it was published as early as
1917. As we all know, it's one thing to present a thought (in this case a
sort of blood and soil philosphy, allthough -- correct me if I'm wrong -- I
can't recall there being much focus on the blood in the book) as a
favourable way of life, and quite another to make activist politics, brown
shirt style, out of it. Don't get me wrong however, I know that Hamsun
sympathized with the nazis, the occupation of Norway and all that, but that
was twenty years after said book was published.
