Wow, they are both good from what I can see.  I have never seen anyone
actually doing this particular hobby but I do have a framed piece I bought a
couple of years ago that impressed me, but it is not as intricate as your
first attempts.  Congrats,

course and explained the basics to me. Since I was stuck at home with
a cold for a couple days and had bought a knife, I thought I'd give it

The first attempt is pretty bad. The second one was a big improvement,
after I learned how to control the knife and remembered how to draft
geometric borders. (Haven't done that since I was around 20, when I
did calligraphy as a hobby.)
