It's an orange-flavored drink powder like pre-sweetened Kool-Aid, but with one or more nutrients added. Way back when, Tang scored an advertising triumph when some of the powder was taken on a space voyage. The ads never mentioned that on early flights the astronauts followed a food-free diet on account of there being no facilities in space suits.
