I have been checking on "elvis". I now realize that we are using
"elvis-tiny" rather than the full "elvis" and it is full "elvis" which
is at version 2.2. The full package (even without X support) might be
very big. The Debian package info page for elvis-tiny is
http://packages.qa.debian.org/e/elvis-tiny.html

Bering-uClibc 3 is using elvis-tiny 1.4-18 and the latest upstream is
1.4.22. Maybe 1.4.22 would be better on Bering-uClibc4 / GCC4? I will
check.

There is also a vi clone within Busybox. Maybe that would be better?
CONFIG_VI and CONFIG_FEATURE_VI_* in the uClibc .config relate.

Once I get a working 4.x build environment I will compare these options
and post my findings.

Sounds good. Let me know when I should try another clean build.

Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances
and start using them to simplify application deployment and
accelerate your shift to cloud computing.
