<x-flowed>Thanks for the help,
At the end of this email I have included information about my system
as recommended by the directions from "How do I request help?"
1. ********** issue: configuration menu corrupts boot disk
******************
This is a clarification of the issue I mentioned in my last email.
Immediately after logging in as root,
I get the red menu screen titled: "Oxygen - December 2000 (12.28.2000)"
If I press enter twice I end up editing /etc/network.conf
If I make a change, save it, and then exit, it then prompts me to backup my
changes.
If I say yes to this, I get the message "Backing up package etc"
Then I get the following messages at the bottom of the screen:
apkg: creating new archive (/tmp/etc.lrp)...
rm: /bin: Device or resource busy
rm: /bin: Device or resource busy
rm: /dev: Device or resource busy
rm: /dev: Device or resource busy
rm: /lib: Device or resource busy
rm: /lib: Device or resource busy
rm: /proc/mdstat: Operation not permitted
rm: /root: Device or resource busy
rm: /root: Device or resource busy
rm: /sbin: Device or resource busy
rm: /sbin: Device or resource busy
rm: /tmp: No such file or directory
rm: /tmp: No such file or directory
rm: /usr/sbin: Device or resource busy
rm: /usr/sbin: Device or resource busy
rm: /var/lib/lrpkg/mnt: No such file or directory
rm: /var/lib/lrpkg/mnt: No such file or directory
/bin/acfg: dialog: not found
exit: /bin/rm not found
And I arrive at a '#' prompt, where no commands are recognized.
For example:
I try to "shutdown -h now" but it says "shutdown: not found"
So then i just hit the power button on my computer.
The next time I try to boot from that,
I get a "Boot failed" messages.
2. ********* Issue: "Set up now? (y or n)" does not do anything
*************
Below is what I copied from the screen as it booted.
Notice the line "Set up now? (y or n)" where I have entered 'y'?
Nothing happens when I type in 'y'. Am I supposed to edit a series of files
like I did the first couple times it asked me this?
net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects = 0
net.ipv4.conf.all.accept_source_route = 0
net.ipv4.ip_always_defrag = 1

3. *********** Issue: Interfaces are not configured ******************
I got the modules for my network cards working, but now
interfaces eth1 and eth2 are not not being configured correctly
eth0 is configured automatically by dhcp.
I have filled in /etc/network.conf with the configuration info.
Am I supposed to do something else to get eth1 and eth2 configured?
This is what I get when I type in "ifconfig -a"

4. *********** Issue: Strange messages ******************
In my last email I mentioned how I was getting these messages:
I fixed the problem by placing a '#' at the beginning of the line that
starts with T1
in the /etc/inittab file.
# Example how to put a getty on a serial line (for a terminal)
T1:23:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -L ttyS0 9600 vt100
