Howdy, Attatched is a call to protest against the French government for their descriminative policies. They are wanting to legislate, preventing muslim women from wearing hijabs in schools. Not only is this racist, it is an outright attack on womens civil liberties. The attatchment has more info. Please distribute to any networks, friends or contacts you have. Cheers, Vivian M __________________________________ Dear All, Rally against French Government, Saturday, 17th January 2004, 3.00 PM Instead of focusing on what is really important for all women, namely education, housing, safety, employment, equal pay, maternity leave and freedom from violence, the French government is focusing on discriminating against Muslim women wearing the hijab (head scarf) in schools. This is an attack on the basic right to religious and cultural freedom. The Victorian Trades Hall Council is calling on all workers to support the Women's Committee of the Arabic Council of Victoria in their Rally against the French Governments move towards prohibiting Muslim women from wearing the Hijab. By doing so we are also sending a clear message to the Howard Government (just in case it gets any ideas about doing something similar here). Join the rally this Saturday, 17th January 2004, 3.00 PM French Consulate 150 Queen Street (between Little Collins and Bourke Street) Melbourne. Pleae also pass this information on to your networks.
