When you have the EPR, Windows creates two profiles--1)Docked 2)Undocked.
Your problem may be that with the Docked profile your mic setting is set too
high and is producing feedback through your speakers. Try muting the mic
setting and see if that eleveates the "hissing" sound.

PS... When you double-click on the little speaker in your system tray, you
may not initially see the mic setting. If you don't see it, you need to
select Options, then Properties and place a check mark in front of
Microphone.
