Thanks for the links! Maybe this reserved space was needed when various vertical dimension variables (top-margin, bottom-margin, etc.) were *scaled* depending on the staff size. But now since they are exact (in 2.11.58), maybe this *reserved* space can be decreased or eliminated entirely? I could be mixing up two different issues, I don't know. But I'll look at scm/layout-page-layout.scm to see if I can understand what is going on.
